Cross-stitch Pattern Size & Fabric Calculator

Calculate finished cross-stitch dimensions and fabric to cut from pattern stitches, fabric count, over-one or over-two stitching, and margins.

Finished design—
Fabric to cut—

Allow extra fabric for framing, finishing and your own working method.

How it works

Enter the pattern width and height in stitches. Fabric count means threads or holes per inch. On Aida, stitches are usually worked over one block; for an evenweave stitched over two threads, select Two threads. The calculator reports both centimetres and inches. Extra margin is added to every side, not split between opposite sides. Confirm the fabric label and your stitching method before cutting.

Formula

Finished inches = stitches × threads worked over ÷ fabric count. Finished centimetres = inches × 2.54. Fabric to cut = finished size + twice the selected margin.

Example

A design 140 stitches wide on 14-count fabric, worked over one, is 10 inches or 25.4 cm wide. With a 5 cm margin on each side, cut at least 35.4 cm in width. A 28-count evenweave worked over two gives the same finished width. Use saved pattern dimensions imports the last generated grid when browser storage is available. Leave enough extra fabric for framing, finishing, shrinkage and your own handling preferences. This estimates cross-stitch fabric size, not bead dimensions or yarn length.

Assumptions and limitations

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded?

No. Image sampling and palette creation happen on this device. Only the generated grid and settings are saved locally; original image files are not stored by the tool.

Are these exact thread or bead colors?

No. The key provides approximate RGB/HEX colors. Match physical materials yourself and check a small sample before starting.

Can I use the downloads commercially?

Use images you own or have permission to adapt. Generating a pattern does not grant rights to an image or remove existing restrictions.
